Making of SUMMERDAY chair
This short video highlights key elements of the SUMMERDAY chair manufacturing process, from the recycled HDPE slab to the hand rolling of the mild steel base and the cutting of seat and back elements.
What is SUMMERDAY?
It’s a chair designed for commercial, hospitality, and residential settings.
Why did I design it?
I wanted to give users a sense of grounding and being in the moment. The chair achieves this by providing subtle feedback—its back moves slightly, bringing the user’s focus back to the present.
Where is it made?
SUMMERDAY is manufactured in Sydney. The slabs are delivered to our St. Peters facility, cut, and assembled just 10 minutes from our studio.
Sustainability:
The base is made of mild steel, fully recyclable in Australia.
The seat and back are made of HDPE, a thermoplastic polymer that can be infinitely recycled.
Do we need another plastic chair? No.
But by focusing on post-consumer materials, like HDPE plastics, we add value to recycled materials, lower production costs, and make sustainable design more accessible.
